Chinese government tries hard to reduce plastic waste. Recently, it banned plastic waste import. According to financial times, half of the UK plastic waste need to find alternative places desperately.
Different from Chinese government, Chinese people overuse plastics. Eastern-style restaurants in Shenzhen provide with a set of dish wrapped with plastic package. Most people open it, wash dish with hot water, and then throw away the plastic package with hot water together. Western-style restaurants provide with a pair of plastic gloves. Most people eat bread wearing plastic gloves instead of asking for napkin.
Chinese people seem to be rather addicted to plastics because they may view plastics to be cleaner and safer than water or napkins. If we need to tackle the plastic pollution issue, we must consider seriously about how plastics are viewed in China.
